As you know Windows 7 is available. You might want to consider an upgrade to this latest and long awaited Windows operating system.

Although some prefer to wait till Service Pack (SP) 1 has been released for possible improvement in stability Windows 7 has proven to be quite stable and effective.

Upgrades can be performed directly from Microsoft Vista. Upgrading from Windows XP or earlier does require re-installation of the operating system software. In either case a full backup is highly recommended before making changes to the operating system.

Microsoft eventually ends support for older operating systems. This includes the end of security patches. We do not recommend using an operating system on a networked computer after this support ends. Windows XP support for SP 2 and earlier ended for most users July 13, 2010. Support for Windows XP with SP 3 is expected to end in April, 2014.

Previous versions of Microsoft Windows include: Windows Vista, XP, Millennium Edition (ME), and 2000.
